CCTV Systems – An

CCTV
systems are essential to a modern business in today's environment. They are
used in applications from retail loss prevention, to lone worker
monitoring, health and safety compliance and process monitoring. Today’s
systems all use Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) or Network Video Recorders
(NVRs) to record and replay images.
DVRs have a significant advantage over discontinued VCR tape systems. They continuously
record to hard disk, rather than having to change tapes every 12 or 24
hours. They also make event replay significantly simpler to find and
replay. Three new technologies are creating the next leap forward in CCTV technology. These are IP mega-pixel cameras, wireless mesh networks and video analytics. Mega-pixel cameras allow images to be stored and analysed in multiple times more resolution than traditional analogue cameras. This allows cameras to provide much more useful pictures from event replays and to allow video analytic behaviours to be tracked in wide angle scenes. Click here to go to our IP and mega-pixel pages. Wireless
mesh networks are the new infra-structure technology that is designed to
provide high reliability wireless bandwidth for high resolution video
streaming in sites that have large geographic areas. Suitable examples are
city centres, air and seaports and industrial complexes with large sites. Video
analytics is the new science of determining personnel and vehicle
behaviours from CCTV images and to cause alarms and events onscreen to
alert monitoring staff. This new technology has been shown to increase
overall detection probabilities from 3% up to 70% and is viewed as a vital
component to allow security personnel to move from passive monitoring to
first responder status. Analysed behaviours include loitering, abandoned
object, removed object, perimeter penetration, graffiti, as well as queue
length, congestion and people counting alarms. |
