Automatic Barrier Systems - An Introduction |
Automatic Barrier Systems are normally used to control vehicles entering or exiting secured areas. All barrier systems need to work with some device to start the opening cycle, which can range from a simple pushbutton, intercom or radio control, up to a keypad, access control reader or Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. Barrier systems also need safety devices to protect vehicles and pedestrians from striking the boom as it closes. These devices include safety photocells and safety vehicle detectors, as well as electronic feedback systems within the barrier control panels that detects obstacles stopping the boom from completing its cycle.
