Access Control Systems – Physical-Logical Convergence

The convergence of physical and logical security systems is the hottest topic in the access control industry today and can provide ROIs of less than 1 year and significant annual savings for both the physical and logical security departments.

But what does convergence mean? Put at its simplest, it's the joining up the previously separate strands of IT security and physical security, with benefits for both security departments.

From the IT security point of view, convergence allows control of access onto LANs and VPNs depending on the reported location of the cardholder.

From the physical security point of view, convergence allows automatic provisioning and deprovisioning of new and terminated employees.

The Imprivata OneSign appliance provides this convergence, along with Single Sign On and Two Factor Authentication out of the box. A Vasco token RADIUS server is built-in as well as laptop fingerprint authentication for offline solutions. This system tightly integrates with the C.Cure, Lenel and S2 access control systems among others.
